Dr. Ruth Green provided a 3-hour workshop on assessing (and impacting) student development of critical thinking (CT). She proposes a 5-step model that begins with:
- Faculty/campus consensus on a definition and expectations for student abilities related to CT. Other steps in the model include
- Identifying an explict, share model for CT,
- Developing an assessment plan,
- Selecting an instrument/process,
- Collecting and analyzing data, and
- Using the data to design learning experiences, faculty development, etc.
The workshop included having participants complete a "Sample CT Test" that included items from the most frequently used commercial tests for assessing CT. For additional information contact Ruth Green (rgreen1@gmu.edu).
