About the Graduating Senior Survey

Since 1990, graduating seniors at George Mason University have been given the opportunity to give the university feedback about their undergraduate experiences through the Graduating Senior Survey. Since 1997, this survey has been available on-line and beginning with this administration, the survey is now required of all graduates. Students who do not complete the survey are at risk of having their diploma withheld. This procedure has increased the response rate significantly from recent administrations, and while a required survey raises the concern that students will not take it seriously, the responses on this year’s survey are similar in most respects to last year’s, with the exception that this year's students tend to be somewhat more positive about their experiences and their levels of satisfaction.

There were 2121 baccalaureate graduates in fall 1998 and spring 1999. Of these, 1662 completed the survey yielding a response rate of 78.4%. Response rates for each college/institute and each major are listed in the report.

The results of this survey are grouped here by university total, by college/institute, and by major. In addition, a trend analysis based on data collected over the last few years is also available on this site. This is the first time that graduating senior survey results have been available on the web. We would like to hear from you about this reporting format.
