Dear Colleagues,
Academic Program Review at George Mason University is based on the principle that
reflection on what we do is central to our mission as educators. Examining and
evaluating where we have been and what we have accomplished provides a platform for
creating the future George Mason. In this guide, you will find the information you need
to prepare your unit for both an internal self-assessment of unit goals and practices, and
an academic action plan for the next seven years.
This guide has been revised to reflect the initiation of the new electronic reporting
program, Weave online, and the experience and knowledge gained during the first cycles
of reviews. There is additional time for an introduction and orientation to the review
process, as well as training and hands-on workshops in use of Weaveonline offered by the
Office of Institutional Assessment. Annual updates have been changed to Biennial and
new data sources are now available.
The Office of Institutional Assessment is available to all units for assistance and
guidance. Please take advantage of this resource. And keep in mind that the work that
you do will also prepare us for our regional accreditation that calls for continuous and
systematic assessment of educational programs.
With deep appreciation for all your efforts,
Peter N. Stearns
Provost
